The best AI visibility tools for a local business, compared honestly

cite0 Toronto, ON · Updated
TL;DR

If you run one business at one address and want to know whether ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews recommends it, the tools below are the realistic shortlist. Entry prices run from $29 a month (Otterly, 15 prompts) to $129 (Ahrefs, 5 prompts), with most clustering at $95–$99 for 50–105 tracked questions. The decisive differences for a local business are not price: they are whether the tool targets a neighbourhood or a country, whether it builds your competitor set or asks you to type it in, and whether it stops at a dashboard or also fixes what it finds. We make one of these tools and have not placed it first.

What actually decides it for a local business?

Price spreads less than the table suggests — most serious options land near $100 a month. Four other things separate them, and they matter more.

Tool by tool

Ahrefs Brand Radar

The right choice if you already pay for Ahrefs and want AI mentions in the same place as backlinks and rankings. The prompt allowance is small — 5 at $129, 20 at $449 — because it is designed around Ahrefs’ own index of what people ask, not around your custom questions; custom prompt packs are $50–$250 on top. For a local business that is a lot of suite for a little AI tracking.

cite0 ours

Built for one business in one market. $99 tracks 105 questions — 100 from a pre-run pack for your category and neighbourhood plus 5 of your own — on ChatGPT, with Google AI Overviews added at $199 and Gemini at $499. From $199 cite0 also implements the fixes: the Google Business Profile, the website, the copy. Weakest where the others are strongest: one engine at entry, Toronto and the GTA only today, no Perplexity or Claude. Full Radar page.

citelayer

Not a tracker — a consultant with a productised menu. $150 buys a one-time audit of one domain across five AI platforms with a scored fix roadmap; $2,909 to $5,818 buys the implementation; $873 a quarter buys re-testing. Good fit if you want a person to do the work once and hand it back. No weekly measurement, so you will not see movement between quarters. Has a med spa page, which is more than most.

Local Dominator

The closest thing to cite0 on geography: it tracks location by location, and bundles Google Maps rank tracking with six AI engines including Grok and Claude. The product is aimed at agencies — white-label reports, client-shareable links — and the pricing is credit-based from $32.50 a month with the real limits behind an estimator, so budget by running the trial. If you are an agency serving local clients, start here and with cite0.

Otterly.ai

The widest engine coverage per dollar: four engines at $29 for 15 prompts, 100 prompts at $189, with Gemini, AI Mode and Claude as paid add-ons. Targeting is by country. For a national brand it is excellent value; for one address the question set and the geography are the wrong shape. cite0 vs Otterly in detail.

Peec AI

$95 for 50 prompts on three of six models, one country. Peec has built the most interesting analysis layer in the category — brand-perception clustering, product-level shopping visibility — aimed at brands with catalogues and multi-country footprints. Country-level targeting and no profile or site work. cite0 vs Peec in detail.

Profound

The enterprise instrument. Nine engines, API, SSO, SOC 2, and a sales conversation to get a price. Profound withdrew its $99 and $399 self-serve plans in September 2026, so the realistic entry for a single business is now the free 7-day trial followed by a quote. If you are a multi-market brand with a team, it is the serious option. cite0 vs Profound in detail.

Tools we did not list, and why

Semrush AI Toolkit bundles AI visibility into its SEO plans (50 prompts a day on Starter); we could not read a standalone price for the toolkit on the day we checked, so we have left the number out rather than guess. Scrunch, AthenaHQ, Rankscale, Trakkr and a dozen others are credible and mostly aimed at brands and agencies; this list is for a business with one address, and we kept it to the tools that either target a location or are regularly shortlisted by one.

Does a local business actually need an AI visibility tool?

Only if AI answers are a channel you want to compete in. When someone asks an assistant “best med spa in North York”, the answer names three or four businesses and nothing in your analytics records that it happened. A tracker is the only way to know whether you are one of them. If you are not yet ranking in Google Maps for your core services, fix that first — AI answers lean heavily on the same signals.

What should an AI visibility tool measure for a local business?

Three things per question: whether you were named, which competitors were named instead, and which sources the answer was built from. The third is what tells you what to fix. Most enterprise tools measure the first well, the second only if you supply the competitor list, and the third as a citation count rather than a work list.

How much does AI visibility tracking cost in 2026?

For a single location, $29 to $129 a month gets you 5 to 105 tracked prompts depending on the tool. $189 to $499 a month gets 100 to 400 prompts and more engines. Enterprise platforms are quoted, typically four figures a month. Done-for-you implementation is a separate line: one-time audits start around $150 and full implementations run $3,000 to $6,000 one-time, or are bundled into a $199 to $499 monthly plan. Competitor figures were read from each vendor’s own public pricing, product and documentation pages on 15 October 2026, and from a dated third-party source only where the vendor’s page no longer prints a number — each such case is marked in the sources. Prices are in USD unless noted and may have changed since. cite0 figures are the live tier catalogue. We do not place ourselves first by default, we link to every competitor, and where a competitor is the better fit we say so. Tools are listed alphabetically.
